Job Opportunity: LVN / LPN - Medical Surgical

Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Shift & Scheduling Details

• Shift Hours: 7 PM – 7 AM
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Must be available to work every other holiday, if needed
• Charting System: EPIC experience required
• Call-off Policy: Up to three shifts may be canceled by the client during the 13-week contract without penalty
• Locals Accepted: Yes, locals accepted for LPNs

Licenses & Certifications

• Active New York Single State LPN license required (NY is not a Compact state)
• BLS certification required
• Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM)

Clinical Skills & Experience Requirements

• Must be able to take own patient assignment with RN support
• Acute Care experience within the last 2 years required
• Skills required include:

  • Blood product administration
  • Central line and peripheral line care/management
  • Phlebotomy, PICC line management, IV start/maintenance
  • High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), oxygen administration, trach care
  • Feeding tube care, heparin protocols, pacemaker monitoring, telemetry
  • Use of rapid response/code teams, isolation precautions
  • Wound care, wound vac, orthopedic trauma, total joint replacements, surgical drains

Unit Details

• Patient Ratio: 1:5–6
• Unit Type: Complex care unit for medicine, orthopedic overflow, and complex long-term patients
• Floating: Required within skillset
• Uniform: Navy blue and white scrub colors

Required Experience

• Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years acute care experience within the last 2 years
• Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted

Health & Compliance Requirements

Candidates must complete the following within 5 days of contract signing:

• Physical exam (within 1 year)
• Fit mask test (annual)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
• Immunizations or titers for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B
  • Varicella
• Drug screening (within 30 days of start)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (during flu season)
• Eye exam (Snellen, within 1 year)
• COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Background & Verification

• 7-year criminal background check required within 3 months of start
• Education verification from primary source required
• Employment verification of at least 2 past employments required
• State-specific checks including sex offender registry and Medicaid exclusion list

Additional Notes

• Government-issued photo ID required
• Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required
• Various competency exams and certifications may be required depending on unit and specialty

This position offers an opportunity to work in a Magnet-recognized, advanced stroke center hospital with a complex care patient population. The role requires strong acute care skills and the ability to work independently with RN support.
