Overview

• Location: Saint Peter, Minnesota
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights
• Hours: 3x12s, 36 hours per week
• Unit: 25-bed med surg unit

Required Qualifications

• RN license
• BLS
• ACLS
• PALS
• One previous travel assignment
• Proficient in IV starts; must be able to start own IVs on the unit
• Orthopedics experience
• Must be able to read tele strips
• Must be able to titrate drips

Preferred

• Insulin, Cardizem, Levophed, and Dopamine familiarity

Unit Details

• Patient mix includes heavy ortho post-op cases such as hips, knees, spine, and shoulder, plus GYN open, general post-op, pneumonia, orthopedics, CHF, COPD, weakness, and geriatric patients with multiple comorbidities
• Rare pediatric patients under 18
• Pain control post-op and monitored overnight
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4 days and 1:5 nights, based on acuity
• No tele/monitor tech; nurses read their own strips
• Charge RN rarely takes a 1–2 patient assignment and helps with discharges
• House Supervisor on nights and weekends
• 2 nurse aides per shift
• No respiratory therapist on unit; RT support is available by iPad access
• Respiratory support includes CPAP, BiPAP, nasal cannula, and rare vents for emergent intubations
• Block scheduling allowed depending on unit needs
• Every third weekend required
• Facility holiday rotation every third holiday
• No call or standby requirement
• Navy blue scrubs; navy scrub jacket; any color or print undershirts
• Orientation includes three 12-hour shifts, including one day shift for access to programs and pharmacy
