Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Labor & Delivery)

Unit Overview

• Labor & Delivery unit with 5 L&D beds
• 2 OR suites dedicated for C-sections
• 1 L&D triage bed
• Postpartum area includes 3 single rooms and 4 double rooms (used as single patient rooms with support person accommodations)
• Patient census varies daily
• Staffing ratios follow AWHONN guidelines:

  • 1:1 for active labor
  • Up to 1:3 for antepartum, triage, early labor
  • 1:6 for mother-baby units

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• Fetal monitoring competency (renewed every 2 years)

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of labor & delivery nursing experience
• Must be able to manage labor patients independently
• Prior travel experience is required

Staffing & Support

• Charge nurse available 24/7, also takes patient assignments as needed
• 1 surgical tech per shift; occasional patient care technician support depending on census and acuity
• No telemetry or monitor techs on unit
• Respiratory therapy equipment used primarily in nursery (CPAP, HFNC, occasional vents while awaiting transport)

Work Schedule

• 12-hour shifts (7 AM – 7 PM or 7 PM – 7 AM)
• Typically one shift per day, no rotating shifts
• Block scheduling accommodated
• Weekend requirement: work every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: work every other holiday (holidays include Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day, and their eves)

Orientation & Other Notes

• Department-specific orientation: 2 shifts
• No typical call or standby requirements
• No floating requirements
• Hospital provides scrubs and requires dedicated shoes or shoe covers if shoes are not dedicated
• Drug-free campus with mandatory negative drug screen for all panels

Requirements / Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Illinois
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Labor and Delivery (2 years of experience)
• Labor and Delivery experience within the last year
• One completed travel assignment
• ACLS issued by American Heart Association
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• NRP
• Ability to manage labor patients
