Job Opportunity: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST/ORT) - Travel Assignment
Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
Seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist with cardiovascular (CV) experience to work in a Level 1 trauma hospital with a heart program. The role involves first and second scrub responsibilities during cardiac surgeries and other specialty procedures.
Unit Profile
- Unit: Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR)
- Number of ORs: 15
- Patient Ratios: 1:1
- Scheduling: Monday to Friday, with night and weekend on-call shifts
- Floating Policy: May float to main OR if no CVOR cases
- Documentation System: Meditech
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school for Certified Operating Room Technicians (CORT)
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) from NBSTSA or Tech in Surgery-Certified (TS-C) from NCCT required upon hire
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of employment start
- Minimum 2 years prior experience in a similar size facility with similar services (higher experience requirement supersedes any lower stated)
- Competency to lead in specialty areas including Robotic, Total Joints, Neuro/Spine, Burn, and Vascular Surgery
- Experience with cardiac surgeries including coronary artery bypass, valve replacements, and DaVinci-assisted thoracoscopy
Skills and Responsibilities
- First scrub role: handling instruments, supplies, and equipment during heart surgical procedures; anticipating surgeon needs; maintaining sterile field
- Second scrub role: assisting surgeon/surgical assistant with sponging, suctioning, cutting sutures, holding retractors, and manipulating endoscopic camera
- Procedures performed on unit include cardiac, general, vascular, neuro, spine, trauma, ortho, ortho/trauma, burn, ENT, transplant, and robotic surgeries
Certifications Required
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Tech in Surgery-Certified (TS-C)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
Additional Information
- Surgical scrubs provided as uniform
- Work in a high-acuity, technologically advanced unit with a heart program
- On-call requirements include night and weekend shifts
