Position Details

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Information

Unit: 8S Oncology
Number of Beds: 21 (current census around 8-12)
Staffing:
- Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 3-4 RNs, 1 Patient Care Technician (PCT)
- Night Shift: 1 charge nurse, 3-4 RNs, 1 PCT
Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:3-4, flexible up to 1:5
Equipment: Baxter pumps
Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Meditech

Required Skills & Experience

Minimum Years of Experience: 1 year in Oncology nursing
Required Background: Oncology experience is mandatory
Preferred Background: Hematology/Oncology (Hemonc) and Chemotherapy certification preferred

Certifications & Licenses

Registered Nurse (RN) license
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Chemotherapy Certification (required)

Typical Procedures

Replacing blood and electrolytes

Unit Guidelines & Policies

Neutropenic precautions
Strict intake and output monitoring
Chlorhexidine (CHG) bath and linen change every 24 hours
Dressing changes every 7 days
Lines and caps changed every 96 hours
No children under 16 allowed on the unit

Work Schedule

Rotating weekends
No on-call duties

Floating Areas

Hematology/Oncology
Bone marrow transplant units
