Registered Nurse (RN) – MedSurg Oncology (Night Shift)
Location: Cheyenne, Wyoming
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Inpatient MedSurg Oncology unit with 24 private beds
- Night shift position (12-hour shifts, typically 6:45 PM to 6:45 AM)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio on nights: approximately 1:5
- Unit cares for typical medical patients including COPD, psych, detox, oncologic emergencies (neutropenic fevers), blood transfusions, failure to thrive, and falls
- Travelers are not required to administer chemotherapy
Schedule & Staffing
- Night shift preferred: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday (flexible scheduling available)
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend (4 weekend shifts per 4-week period; weekends are Friday and Saturday nights)
- Holiday shifts possible but not guaranteed; flexibility appreciated
- Block scheduling and self-scheduling allowed
- Charge nurse present on both shifts, generally does not take patient assignments
- Rapid Response Nurse available 24/7
- On-call may be required occasionally for low census situations
Patient Care & Unit Details
- RNs are required to titrate drips such as Heparin and Fentanyl
- Telemetry monitored remotely by tele techs; RNs do not read their own strips
- CNAs support the unit with ratios: Days 1:6-10, Nights 1:8-12
- Respiratory therapy available 24/7 managing CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen
- Floating required to other inpatient units (Tele, surgical ortho neuro, medical), focusing on medical patients only
Orientation & Training
- Orientation length: 3 shifts with a preceptor (can be extended if needed)
- RQI certification completed during orientation (equivalent to BLS)
- BLS certification required prior to start
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of nursing experience in a relevant specialty (MedSurg/Oncology)
- No prior travel experience required
- Must have a current RN license appropriate for Wyoming
- Ability to titrate drips and manage typical MedSurg patient care
Additional Information
- Permanent address must be at least 25 miles from the facility location
- Dress code: professional navy blue scrubs (scrubs not provided)
- Biweekly orientation dates available (specific dates provided during onboarding)
- Scheduling managed via Kronos with manager oversight to minimize shift changes
