Speech Language Pathologist (SLP)
Location: Boise, Idaho
Contract Length: 3 months
Shift: Days (7:30 AM – 6:00 PM)
Schedule: Four 10-hour days per week, approximately 2 weekend days per month (more weekends possible if preferred)
Orientation: 3-5 days including system, documentation, hospital, and department-specific training
Job Setting & Patient Population
- Acute Inpatient and Outpatient settings (including Modified Barium Swallow Study (MBSS) / Video Fluoroscopic Swallow Study (VFSS))
- Patient caseload: 8-10 patients per day, with 2-5 therapists on the unit daily
- Common diagnoses: Neurologic conditions (CVA, MS, Parkinson’s, Guillain-Barre, cranial and spinal surgeries), general medical, orthopedic (total joints, fractures), cardiac (pacers, CABG, valve replacements), oncology
- Does not typically treat traumatic brain injury (TBI) or transplant patients
Required Qualifications
- Current BLS Certification
- Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP)
- State Licensure as an SLP in Idaho
- Minimum 1 year of acute care experience as a CCC-SLP
- Proficiency in performing MBSS/VFSS required; experience with FEES (fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation) is a plus but not required
- Ability to evaluate and treat dysphagia and cognitive deficits
Additional Information
- Electronic Medical Record system: EPIC
- Unit has a manager on each shift
- Rehab aides are available (no speech language assistants)
- Dress code: Any color scrubs or business casual accepted
- Facility enforces a 50-mile radius rule for candidates’ permanent address
