Registered Nurse (Med Surg/Telemetry) - Travel/Contract
Location: Auburn, New York
Assignment Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 (option to work up to 48)
Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Every other weekend and every other holiday
Floating: Required as needed
Job Overview
- Fast-track offer available for candidates who can start ASAP without requested time off (RTO) and meet all clinical requirements.
- Team nursing model: RN, LPN, and PCA care for up to 8 patients.
- No blocked scheduling.
- Call-off policy allows up to 3 shifts off during the 13-week assignment.
- Candidates without a current NY license may be submitted if they have applied and provide the application date.
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 1 year of recent Med Surg/Telemetry nursing experience (within the past year).
- Competencies include:
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Use of Rapid Response/Code teams
- Peripheral line care/management
- Oxygen administration (nasal cannula, oxygen tanks)
- Non-invasive airway management
- Isolation precautions
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid New York State Registered Nurse license required.
- Certifications required before start:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification (minimum 2 hours, updated annually)
Orientation & Testing Requirements
- Must pass a telemetry assessment (minimum 80%) on the first day of orientation covering:
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation (heart blocks, arrhythmias, paced rhythms)
- Normal telemetry strip intervals
- Appropriate clinical interventions for arrhythmias
- Remediation provided if initial assessment is not passed, with a retest during the first week.
- Responsible for independently measuring and interpreting telemetry strips as no telemetry technicians are employed.
Background & Health Requirements
- Background check within 1 year covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in the past 7 years.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required prior to start.
- Physical exam within 12 months signed by a licensed provider confirming ability to perform job duties.
- Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually (approved mask types specified).
- Immunizations and screenings required:
- TDAP vaccine within last 10 years or declination
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella immunity (2 MMR vaccines or serologic titers)
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
- Varicella immunity (2 vaccines, positive titer, or documented history)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season
- COVID vaccine records or declination
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant/rapid accepted).
Documentation & Compliance
- Must review and sign facility-specific documents including:
- Code of Conduct
- Patient Abuse Reporting
- Confidentiality and Non-Disclosure Agreement
- Orientation Packet and Acknowledgement (including self-study quiz)
- Automated Dispensing Cabinet Security (for Pyxis access)
- Annual Tuberculosis Screening Questionnaire
- Required to provide 2 professional references within 3 years.
- Skills checklist required.
- Compliance with New York State Nurse Aide Registry and Medicaid Exclusion List requirements.
Additional Notes
- All requested time off (RTO) must be disclosed at submittal; no RTO allowed after offer without coverage responsibility.
- Automatic disqualification if no hits on nursing license verification.
