Cath Lab Tech - Travel/Contract

Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Work in Diagnostic and Interventional Cardiac Cath Labs performing a variety of cardiac catheterization procedures including stent placement, diagnostic catheterizations, IABP placement/removal, left and right heart catheterizations, and percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI).


Work Schedule

  • Shift: Monday to Friday, 6:45 AM to 3:15 PM (5 days x 8 hours)
  • Occasional late days (4-5 per month), rarely past 5 PM
  • Call: One day per week and every fifth weekend
  • Float as needed
  • No weekend shifts required

Patient Population

Patients with cardiovascular diagnoses such as coronary artery disease (stable/unstable angina, NSTEMI, STEMI), heart failure, valvular disease, congenital heart disease, pulmonary hypertension, pericardial disease, and pre-operative cardiac evaluations.

Medications & IV Therapy

  • Antiarrhythmics, Antihypertensives, Emergency Medications
  • IV vasopressors, Procedural Sedation Administration/Monitoring, Reversal agents, Thrombolytics
  • Blood Product Administration, IV infusion pumps, Starting IVs

Professional Knowledge & Skills

  • 12 Lead EKG interpretation
  • Activated Clotting Time (ACT)
  • Cardioversion
  • Circulate Procedures
  • Infection Prevention and Isolation Precautions
  • Interpretation and Management of Dysrhythmias
  • Malignant Hyperthermia Protocols
  • Monitoring Procedural Sedation
  • Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale
  • Sheath Removal and Monitoring

Preferred Skills (Not Required)

  • ASD Closures, Cardiac Implant Closure Device, Impella insertion, Rotablader athrectomy
  • Transcatheter Aortic Valve implantation/Replacement (TAVI/TAVR)
  • Angioplasty, dialysis graft interventional, Upper and Lower Extremity Angiography
  • Central Line Insertion/management assistance, Implanted Ports and PICC Lines care
  • End-Tidal CO2 monitoring, External Compression Devices, Hypothermia protocols
  • Laser Assisted Procedures, Pressure Ulcer Assessment/Prevention
  • Radiation and Laser Safety, Topical Hemostasis, Vascular Closure Systems
  • Ventilator Monitoring

Special Equipment

  • Impella, Penumbra, EKOS, Roto, Ultrasound, Shockwave, ACIST
  • GE Mac Lab system

Orientation & Training

  • Unit Orientation: 16 hours
  • Scrubs provided

Required Certifications and Experience

  • Valid Cath Lab Technologist license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Cath Lab Technologist
  • Cath Lab Technologist experience within the last year
  • ACLS (AHA or American Red Cross)
  • BLS (AHA or American Red Cross)

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Background checks including local county, federal court, national criminal database, DOJ sex offender search, and education verification for highest degree specific to profession
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative results required)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (30 days if past positive TB)
  • Fit mask testing (N95 or PAPR training) within 1 year of start
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray as applicable
  • Immunizations or titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (facility-specific declination form if titer negative/equivocal)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 to 10/31)
  • Medication Safety training and certificate of completion required
  • Competency exams including Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (must pass with 82% or higher within 72 hours of start)

Documentation & Compliance

  • Employment application and skills checklist as applicable
  • Radiation badge required for Cath Lab techs
  • Facility-specific confidentiality agreement, education roster, tobacco-free campus acknowledgement, and hospital policies acknowledgment forms must be completed
  • Non-Novant Health Worker Clinical Education Checklist required for North Carolina travel candidates
  • Annual compliance training and other facility-specific mandatory education modules as applicable

Additional Notes

  • Candidate must provide a passport-style photo on a white background for badge creation
  • Candidate must complete Corp ID and I-Learn account setup within 24 hours of receiving email instructions to avoid start delays
  • Interview with manager required prior to offer
