Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Circulator role with experience in multiple specialties including Orthopedics (Trauma, Joints, Sports Medicine, Shoulders) and Robotic Surgery (DaVinci).
- Preferred shifts: 12-hour day shifts, Monday to Friday, 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM (3 shifts per week, 36 hours total).
- Call required: Up to 10 calls per contract, typically fewer; call hours after 7:00 PM to 6:30 AM and weekends.
- Weekend shifts: Call only, 24-hour coverage on Saturday or Sunday.
- Possible float to 2nd floor Outpatient Operating Rooms.
- Must have Level 1 experience.
- Preferred experience with conscious sedation and scrub skills.
- Core skill: Circulating in the OR.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience.
- EPIC electronic health record experience required.
- BLS and NIH Stroke certification required.
- ACLS certification preferred.
- Prior travel experience preferred but not required.
- Valid Registered Nurse license for Ohio.
Certifications & Competencies
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA provider or instructor accepted.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
- NIH Stroke Certification required.
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start.
- Unit-specific competency exams required.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (with remediation process if needed).
Background & Credentialing Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide search, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle record if driving is required.
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start using specific Ohio codes; must be completed prior to start.
- Education verification: Graduate of an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
- Employment application and skills checklist required.
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or TB questionnaire in lieu of annual testing. Chest X-ray or treatment documentation if TB positive.
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12).
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low titer and no vaccine proof.
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions require documentation.
- Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series; signed declination acceptable.
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); decliners must wear a mask.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene). New travelers cannot start with pending drug screen.
Facility Policies & Compliance
- Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policy.
- Completion of Confidential Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Reporting training and form prior to start and annually thereafter.
- Annual review and acknowledgment of ethics and compliance policies.
Additional Information
- Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required annually.
- License verification required within 30 days of start.
- NURSYS verification required for RN license.
- Candidates must complete fingerprinting and background checks as per facility-specific instructions.
- Candidates with gaps in employment over 30 days with this facility may require updated health documents and fingerprinting.
