Job Opportunity: Hospice Registered Nurse
Location: Auburn, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Hospice Registered Nurse (CMRN Hospice)
- Schedule: Day shift, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (5 days a week, 8 hours per day)
- Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
- Average Patient Load: 5-7 patients per day (geriatric, end-of-life care)
- EMR System: HCHB Experience required
- On-call: Yes (details to be discussed during interview)
- Territory: Up to 60-mile radius from the hub/office
- Dress Code: Scrubs (any color), no jeans
- Device Provided: iPad
- Cell Phone Use: Not allowed
- Mileage Reimbursement: Yes, at IRS standard rate
- Flexibility: Traveler expected to be flexible with territory coverage
- Locals accepted at travel rate
- First-time travelers NOT accepted
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts
- Minimum 1 year of hospice nursing experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Homecare Homebase (HCHB) EMR system
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Background checks must be completed within 90 days of start and updated annually, including:
- SSN Trace
- County searches for last 7 years of residence/work/school
- FACIS Level 1M
- Nationwide Sex Offender Registry
- Motor Vehicle Records (MVR)
- Education and Work History Verification
- State-specific searches as applicable (e.g., Kentucky, Virginia, Indiana, New Hampshire, South Carolina)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 90 days of start
- Fingerprinting required for certain states (e.g., Connecticut, Ohio) with specific procedures and timelines
- Education verification of highest degree related to profession required
- NURSYS verification for RN license within 90 days of start
- Signed Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (updated annually)
- Agency Background Attestation required prior to start
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within the last 12 months (physician statement)
- Negative TB test (PPD, Q Gold, or TSpot) within 1 year or chest X-ray within 5 years if positive PPD
- Annual TB Questionnaire required
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (series, titer, or declination)
- Varicella (series, titer, or declination)
- Flu seasonal vaccination or facility-specific declination form required during flu season (Aug-Nov)
- COVID vaccination or facility-specific declination required
- 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant acceptable)
Documentation and Verification
- Full 7 years of work history with no gaps required on employment application
- Employment history verification for 7 years must be completed within 90 days of start
- Two professional references required for travel, allied, or per diem acute care roles (within 2 years of start)
- Skills checklist required annually
- Facility-specific documents such as Acceptable Use Policy and Agency Background Attestation must be completed prior to start
- Proof of current auto insurance required if job responsibilities include driving
Additional Notes
- Prior travel experience is required; first-time travelers are not accepted for this position
- Candidate must have license in hand before start
- Flexibility with territory and timely communication/documentation are essential for success in this role
