Correctional Registered Nurse

Job Overview

• Location: Wallkill, New York
• Employment type: Travel/Contract
• Contract length: 26 weeks
• Schedule: 5x8 day shift, 6:00 AM–2:00 PM
• Weekend coverage is required, and the exact shift may vary

Key Responsibilities

• Administer medications one-on-one, including diabetic monitoring
• Assess, evaluate, and treat medical emergencies, injuries, and patients admitted to side rooms
• Complete intake assessments and infirmary or hospital return assessments
• Review patients returning from medical trips or appointments
• Transcribe provider orders
• Prepare charts for next-day appointments
• Prepare patients for transfers to other facilities or hospitals

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New York
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• 1 year of nursing experience, excluding Home Health, Hospice, and School Services
• Nursing experience excluding Home Health, Hospice, and School Services within the last year
• ACLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• PALS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Competency exam required for all candidates
• Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required for RNs
• 2 references required

Screening and Compliance

• Background check required, including SS trace, county searches, nationwide search, and sex offender search
• Fingerprinting required onsite
• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months before start
• TB questionnaire required annually
• Drug test within 1 year of start
• Immunization or documentation required for measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, and varicella
• Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required
• COVID-19 booster is preferred, not required
