Job Opportunity: Pediatric PACU Registered Nurse

Location: Boston, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

Seeking experienced Pediatric Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurses to support team expansion. This is a full-time position with 40 hours per week, working 10-hour day or early evening shifts with rotating start times (8am, 9am, 10am, 11am), Monday through Friday. No weekend or holiday requirement, though weekend hours are optional to support time off requests.


Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Massachusetts
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Pediatrics PACU - Post Anesthetic Care, including experience within the last year
  • Experience in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience working with pediatric patients

Schedule

  • 40 hours per week
  • 10-hour shifts, day or early evening
  • Rotating start times: 8am, 9am, 10am, 11am
  • Monday through Friday
  • No mandatory weekends or holidays; weekend shifts optional

Certifications & Competencies

  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – required
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – may be required if assignment is extended beyond 13 weeks (not mandatory for PACU)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) preferred for NICU
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required for all RNs

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, cleared to work with no restrictions
  • Immunizations and proof of immunity or vaccination for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (series or declination accepted)
    • Seasonal Flu vaccine or approved exemption
    • COVID-19 vaccine series or approved exemption
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within required timeframe
  • Drug screening (9 panel) within last 12 months (not required for advanced practice nurses)
  • Respiratory safety clearance (RespSafety questionnaire and onsite fit testing)
  • Background checks including 10-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and Massachusetts statewide iCORI clearance
  • Professional references (2 from last 3 employers)
  • Employment application with 10-year work history and explanation for gaps over 30 days
  • Skills checklist verifying unit-specific competencies within 1 year prior to start

Additional Notes

  • Rotating start times require flexibility.
  • No on-call responsibilities.
  • Local candidates within 50 miles accepted.
  • Charting system currently Cerner, transitioning to EPIC (EPIC experience preferred).
  • Scrub color: any solid color allowed on all units.
  • Parking available with discounted rates; free parking for night shifts.
