Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVPICU
Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for a Cardiovascular Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (CVPICU) on a travel contract basis. This position requires working every other weekend and includes floating responsibilities. Orientation sessions are held bi-weekly.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Minimum 1 year of Cardiovascular Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (CVPICU) experience within the last year
- Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Required Documentation & Compliance
Background Checks:
- Must be completed within 90 days of start date.
- Includes SSN trace, county and alias searches, sex offender, international searches (if applicable), education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and OFAC sanctions list search (within 30 days).
- No pending background checks allowed at start.
Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 12 months of start.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months.
- Up-to-date immunizations including:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years, no exemptions)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (vaccines or positive titers required, no exemptions)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Seasonal flu vaccine (required during flu season, no exemptions)
- Polio vaccine or signed attestation.
- Drug test: Negative 10-panel (including THC) within 30 days of start; instant tests not accepted.
References: Two professional references from employment within the last 12 months; at least one must be a supervisor.
Employment Application: Complete with 7 years of work history.
Skills Checklist: Must be updated annually.
Orientation & Onboarding
- Orientation is bi-weekly and includes competency exams and pass/fail testing (EKG/medication knowledge).
- Candidates must complete online modules prior to orientation.
- A Guest Account must be set up prior to clearance to access necessary systems and complete orientation.
- Competency checklists (CBOs) must be completed within 3 weeks after start date.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Blue Card training may be required; if not held, training is provided onsite.

- Candidates must provide a valid driver’s license or government-issued photo ID.
- Social Security card required only if used for I-9 verification.
- Candidates must comply with all facility-specific document requirements.
- Local candidates within 75 miles are eligible and considered for local rates.
- Candidates with less than a 30-day gap between previous assignments may have some document requirements waived or accepted on file.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized pediatric cardiovascular ICU setting with structured orientation and support for travel nurses.
