Registered Nurse (RN) - Bone Marrow Transplant

Location: Dallas, Texas
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Must have Oncology experience and Chemotherapy Certification.
  • ACLS and Chemotherapy Certification required to start.
  • Unit provides Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) care including autologous and allogeneic transplants (related, unrelated, haplo-match, mismatch donors) and CAR-T therapies.
  • Unit has approximately 40 beds (20 beds per floor).
  • Patient ratios target 1:3, stretch 1:4 depending on staffing.
  • Equipment includes bedside monitors, bedside computers, and lift assist devices.
  • Documentation system: Meditech.
  • Scheduling includes rotating weekends.
  • Travelers float first.
  • Patient care includes bedside shift report, safety rounds, team management, and No Pass Zone policy.
  • Procedures performed on unit include infrequent bone marrow biopsies.
  • Dress code: Royal blue scrubs.
  • The unit is recognized with five-time accreditation by FACT.
  • Teamwork is emphasized; the unit is welcoming to floats and contract employees.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
  • Minimum 1 year of Oncology nursing experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Chemotherapy certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Ability to competently administer chemotherapy and excellent patient assessment skills

Traveler-friendly and nurse-to-patient ratio is fair (only once I was Quaded but had a lot of help from Nurse Extern & Resource RN).

Cons

Move closer to the facility; traffic in the city is horrible, and the express toll costs can vary from day to day.
