Job Opportunity: ED Holds/Tele Nurse

Location: Gilbert, Arizona
Facility: Mercy Gilbert Medical Center


Position Overview

  • Tele nursing position requiring strong tele skills and cardiac telemetry experience.
  • Nurses will care primarily for ED hold patients waiting for placement, mostly medical-surgical (MS) and telemetry patients.
  • Must be able to titrate cardiac drips per physician orders and parameters.

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Unit Details

  • ED holds unit with 31 beds at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center (CRMC has 60 ED beds).
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
  • No respiratory therapy equipment like vents on this unit.
  • No monitor techs; nurses must read and interpret cardiac strips themselves.

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

Experience & Skills Required

  • Strong cardiac telemetry background, preferably 2 years.
  • Experience with titrating cardiac drips such as Cardizem, Heparin, Amiodarone.
  • Ability to decrease cardiac drips per physician orders.
  • Must pass a dysrhythmia exam (max 2 attempts) and a pass/fail simulation lab on day one of orientation. Failure results in a 6-month disqualification from this region.

Responsibilities

  • Care for ED hold patients waiting for inpatient beds.
  • May assist with ED patients by taking vitals, starting IVs, and administering medications but will not be primary RN for ED patient assignments.
  • Titrate cardiac drips as needed.

Scheduling & Shifts

  • 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm or 7pm-7am)
  • Self-scheduling ability, subject to change.
  • Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule.
  • Holiday shifts rotate with permanent staff.
  • No call or standby requirement.

Floating & Orientation

  • May float to med/surg, tele, overflow units, and EDs at Mercy Gilbert and Chandler Regional Medical Center (CRMC).
  • Orientation includes 2 shifts on Med/Surg/Tele at the primary campus.

Additional Information

  • Dress code: Navy scrub color.
  • ED Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) available on unit.
  • Charge nurse available for support.

This role is ideal for nurses with strong telemetry skills who are comfortable managing cardiac drips and working in a fast-paced ED hold environment with a focus on tele patients.
