Job Details

• Specialty: Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN)

• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Days
• Hours: 10 hours per day, 40 hours per week
• Typical Shift Times: 6:30 AM - 3:30 PM or 6:30 AM - 5:00 PM, with potential for 12-hour shifts (to be discussed with management)
• Call Requirements:

  • Weeknight call: 1-2 times per week (end of shift to beginning of next day)
  • Weekend call: Every 3rd to 5th weekend (Saturday morning to start of shift Monday)
  • Holiday call: Rotational coverage as needed
  • Call response time: Must be within 30 minutes while on call
• Floating: No floating required
• Orientation: 1-2 shifts with a preceptor and meeting with educator
• Scrubs: Provided

Department Information

• Number of OR suites: 12
• Average cases per day: 18-24
• Common surgical cases include:

  • Urology: cystoscopies, robotic surgeries, appendectomies, bowel cases
  • Orthopedics: hands/feet surgeries, pins, total joint replacements
  • Neurosurgery: lumbar and cranial procedures
  • Hernia repairs
  • Vascular surgeries
  • C-sections (typically covered by OB)
• Use of Intuitive Surgical Robot is common
• Charge nurse and house supervisors available
• OR techs available for scrubbing support
• Electronic Medical Record system: Epic

Required Qualifications

• Illinois RN license in hand
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• EPIC experience is mandatory
• Drivers license required for submission
• Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year of OR nursing experience preferred
  • Experience with orthopedic, neurosurgery, and urology cases required
  • Experience with robotic surgery preferred
  • First-time travelers are accepted
• Scrubbing in the OR is preferred but not mandatory

• Local candidates within 50 miles may have adjusted pay rates (not included here)
• Schedule may include 4x10 hour day shifts (6:30 AM - 5:00 PM)
