Job Details

  • Position: Cath Lab Registered Nurse
  • Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: 4 days per week, 10 hours per day (typically 7:30 AM - 6:00 PM)
  • Call: 1 night per week
  • Weekend Requirement: 1 weekend every other month
  • Float Requirement: As needed
  • Scheduling: Self-scheduled
  • Unit Orientation: 24 hours
  • Scrubs Provided

Required Skills & Experience

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 1 year of Cardiac Cath Lab experience, with experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Experience with procedural sedation administration and monitoring
  • Experience with thrombolytics administration
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Preferred Skills & Certifications

  • Experience with:
    • Pre/post procedure care
    • Special procedures such as ASD closures, TAVR, valvuloplasty, Watchman procedure
    • Angioplasty, carotid stenting
    • Central venous access (non-tunneled/PICC and port placement)
    • Dialysis graft creation/revision and interventional procedures
    • Endovascular interventions and vascular scrub procedures
    • Stent graft placement, thoracic aortography, upper/lower extremity angiography
    • Use of external compression devices (C-Clamp, sandbags)
    • Hypothermia and malignant hyperthermia protocols
    • 12 lead EKG/ECG acquisition
    • Radiation and laser safety
    • Vascular closure systems (Perclose, StarClose)

Technology & Systems

  • Medication, documentation, and communication systems used:
    • Pyxis
    • MAC LAB
    • CUPID
    • EPIC
    • SBAR

Required Background & Compliance Checks

  • Background checks required within 90 days of start, including:
    • Local, federal, and national criminal databases
    • DOJ sex offender search
    • Education verification for highest degree earned specific to nursing
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (or within 30 days if past positive TB)
  • Fit mask testing (N95 or PAPR training) within 1 year of start
  • TB testing: PPD, Qgold, or Tspot within 1 year; if positive, chest x-ray and physician-signed TB questionnaire required
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (titer or series or facility-specific declination)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 10/31)
  • References: 2 professional references within 3 years (not required by employer but required by agency)

Required Facility-Specific Documents & Training

  • Confidentiality agreement
  • Education roster (2-hour 45-minute module)
  • Tobacco-free campus acknowledgement
  • Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation (acute candidates: 8-10 hours)
  • Medication safety training and certificate of completion
  • Hospital policies and acknowledgement form
  • Annual compliance training (40 minutes)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) training if required
  • Radiation badge for Cath Lab staff (if applicable)
  • Corp ID setup and I-Learn login within 24 hours of receiving credentials
  • Photo for badge (passport style, white background, business attire) required immediately after signing contract

Additional Notes

  • Candidates may test out of the 8-hour Epic Dimensions course if they have 6+ months prior EPIC experience (optional)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required with a minimum passing score of 82% (must be completed within 72 hours of start)
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exams required as applicable
  • Color blindness testing required within 1 year of start
  • Performance evaluations required if worked with agency over 1 year
  • Employment application must be uploaded to agency system
