Medical Surgical Nurse

Overview

• Travel/contract role in Roanoke, Virginia
• Night shift: 4x12 hours, 6:45 PM–7:15 AM
• 13-week assignment
• Adult inpatient unit with medical-surgical, behavioral health, and substance use disorder care

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Virginia
• Med Surg (1 year of experience)
• Med Surg experience within the last year
• One completed travel assignment
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Skilled in peripheral line care/management
• Skilled in non-invasive airway management
• Experience with Epic

Scheduling and Work Expectations

• May be scheduled every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block
• Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
• May be required to float within skillset
• May be required to work as charge and precept
• 1:6 patient ratio

Charting

• EPIC experience required

Additional Requirements

• Accepts local candidates
• Does not accept first-time travelers
• Driver’s license or state ID required within 48 hours of signing
• E-Verify or attestation required
• 7-year background check required
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
• Education verification of highest earned degree required
• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Fit mask test within 1 year of start and updated annually
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
• TB questionnaire required
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
• 2 clinical references required
• Complete application/resume required
• Skills checklist required and updated annually

Unit Focus

• Care for adult patients with complex medical conditions, co-occurring behavioral health needs, and substance use disorders
• Emphasis on assessment, stabilization, medication management, behavioral support, and discharge planning
