Registered Nurse – CVICU (Travel/Contract)

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Shift: Night, 12-hour shifts (1900-0730), 3 shifts per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) during evening/night shifts.
  • Every other weekend and some holidays required; no on-call duties.
  • Experience with NextStage Continuous Venovenous Hemofiltration (CVVH) machine required.
  • Experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery and/or Acuity Adaptable areas preferred.
  • Basic Arrhythmia experience required; must pass a Telemetry test before starting.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) experience within the last year.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Basic Arrhythmia experience.

Experience

  • Minimum years of specialty experience: Not explicitly stated beyond CVICU experience requirement; assume at least 1 year CVICU experience.
  • Prior travel experience: Not required.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days prior to start, including SSN trace and nationwide sex offender search.
  • Wisconsin BID Form and Caregiver Screening required prior to start.

  • Physical exam collected to meet agency standards (not facility required).
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • TB test or chest X-ray (with follow-up if positive).
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or titers; medical/religious exemptions allowed with approval.
    • Varicella vaccination or titer; medical/religious exemptions allowed with approval.
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series or declination form if declining.
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved exemption required annually during flu season.
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination proof as applicable.
    • Meningococcal vaccine or declination if working in specific departments.

Testing and Competency Exams

  • Telemetry test (Adult Telemetry Test via LMS platform) must be completed and passed before start.
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as applicable.
  • Annual skills checklist required.

Additional Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Passport-style photo for badge issuance (no selfies or headwear except for religious/medical reasons).
  • Signed acknowledgment of safety manual and pass/fail testing policies.
  • Completion of communicable disease form within 90 days of start.
  • Flu medical or religious exemption forms if applicable.
  • If failing Telemetry test twice, completion of a rhythm interpretation remediation course is required before a third attempt.

References and History

  • Two clinical references within the last 3 years required (agency standard).
  • Employment application required for all candidates.

This position is ideal for experienced CVICU RNs with strong telemetry and arrhythmia skills, comfortable working night shifts in a high-acuity cardiovascular setting.
