Position Details

• Job Title: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse
• Employment Type: Travel/Contract

• Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New Mexico (pending licenses not accepted)
• Minimum 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• ACLS certification
• BLS certification issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association

Patient Diagnoses and Unit Information

• Telemetry unit
• Common patient diagnoses include:

  • Diabetes Mellitus (DM)
  • Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
  • Alcohol withdrawal
  • Post-operative infections
  • Hypertension (HTN)
  • Altered mental status (AMS)
  • COVID-19, Influenza/RSV
  • Cellulitis
  • COPD exacerbation
  • Abdominal pain
• Use of specialized equipment such as NG tubes, wound vacs, and Kangaroo pumps

Orientation and Compliance Requirements

• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and fingerprinting (fingerprints must be completed within 10 days of orientation)
• Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
• Annual TB questionnaire required
• Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Tdap, Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (THC screen not required)
• Flu vaccine or approved exemption required annually (flu season documentation deadline November 30)
• Fit mask test required within 1 year of start
• Completion of facility-specific orientation and competency exams as applicable
• Skills checklist updated annually
• References: 2 professional references within 3 years of hire

Additional Notes

• New contracts and extensions must be at least 10 weeks in length
• A 6-month break is required for travelers who have worked 4 consecutive assignments or reached one year of travel nursing with this facility, whichever comes first
• Overtime applies after 48 hours worked per week on contracts signed on or after 10/30/2025
• Block scheduling is not accommodated
