Position Details
- Job Title: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Location: Rio Rancho, New Mexico
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
- Patient Ratios: 1:5
- Facility Type: Community-based hospital
- Total Staffed Beds: 60
- Charting System: Cerner

Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New Mexico (pending licenses not accepted)
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association

- Pre/Post Hemodialysis management

Patient Diagnoses and Unit Information
- Telemetry unit
- Common patient diagnoses include:
- Diabetes Mellitus (DM)
- Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
- Alcohol withdrawal
- Post-operative infections
- Hypertension (HTN)
- Altered mental status (AMS)
- COVID-19, Influenza/RSV
- Cellulitis
- COPD exacerbation
- Abdominal pain
- Use of specialized equipment such as NG tubes, wound vacs, and Kangaroo pumps
Orientation and Compliance Requirements
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and fingerprinting (fingerprints must be completed within 10 days of orientation)
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Annual TB questionnaire required
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Tdap, Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (THC screen not required)
- Flu vaccine or approved exemption required annually (flu season documentation deadline November 30)
- Fit mask test required within 1 year of start
- Completion of facility-specific orientation and competency exams as applicable
- Skills checklist updated annually
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years of hire
Additional Notes
- New contracts and extensions must be at least 10 weeks in length
- A 6-month break is required for travelers who have worked 4 consecutive assignments or reached one year of travel nursing with this facility, whichever comes first
- Overtime applies after 48 hours worked per week on contracts signed on or after 10/30/2025
- Block scheduling is not accommodated
