Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Aurora, Colorado
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 12-hour shifts starting at 10:45 AM, with occasional floats to 8:45 AM and 6:45 AM starts
- Hours per Week: 36 hours (typically 3 shifts per week)
- Unit: Operating Room (41 ORs), Level 1 Trauma Center
- Patient Ratio: 1:1
- Weekend Requirements: Yes, as needed per unit needs
- On-Call Requirements: No
- Floating: Yes, must float within scope to other Operating Rooms in the facility
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Colorado
- Minimum 3 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
- Trauma experience
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Experience with Epic Electronic Health Record system
Time Off and Scheduling Notes
- Maximum of 10 Return to Office (RTO) days approved
- RTO not allowed during these blackout periods in 2026:
- June 28 – July 9
- September 2 – September 12
- October 25 – November 4
- Flexibility may be considered for harder-to-fill positions
Required Documentation and Compliance
- Background Checks:
- 7-year background check including SSN trace, Colorado CBI, education verification (accredited nursing school), sex offender search, OFAC sanctions, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
- Education Verification: Accredited nursing school verification or transcript/diploma acceptable
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 1 year, signed by MD, DO, NP, or PA
- Fit mask test within 12 months (3M 1860S, 1860R, 1870/1870+) with annual updates
- Immunizations/vaccines or titers for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccines
- Hepatitis B immunity or vaccine series or declination
- Varicella immunity or vaccines
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, with annual updates for positives
- COVID vaccine proof or signed declination
- Drug Testing: Within 30 days of start and annually, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, buprenorphine, cocaine, methadone, methamphetamine, morphine, oxycodone)
- Color Blindness: Ishihara exam required prior to start (online testing not accepted)
- References: Two references from the last two years required; one must be from employment within the last year, from a Charge RN, Manager, Supervisor, or above
- Employment History: Verification of last 3 years of employment with explanations for gaps over 30 days
Competency and Certification Exams
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (updated annually)
- Core competency exams (Parts I, II, III) annually with minimum 80% score
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam annually (for ICU, Med/Surg, Tele, Stepdown, PCU, ER, Neuro ICU, etc.)
- OSHA mandatory training annually with minimum 80% score
Additional Notes
- Facility-specific new employee orientation modules must be completed within the first two weeks of assignment
- Candidates must maintain renewal plans for any certifications expiring within 90 days of assignment start to avoid clearance issues
This position is ideal for experienced OR Registered Nurses with trauma experience and prior travel assignments who are comfortable with floating within OR units and working in a Level 1 Trauma Center environment.
