Job Opportunity: Outpatient Clinic Infusion Nurse (Registered Nurse)

Job Description

  • Provide ambulatory infusion nursing care in an outpatient setting, specifically administering chemotherapy to 6-8 patients per day.
  • Experience limited to inpatient infusion is not suitable due to differences in patient acuity and workflow.
  • Work schedule consists of four 9-hour day shifts (8:00 AM – 5:30 PM), with days of the week varying.
  • No weekend shifts required.
  • No on-call duties.
  • No floating outside of scope to other units.
  • Block scheduling accommodations are not available.
  • Guaranteed hours.

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut.
  • Minimum of 2 years of infusion nursing experience, including infusion experience within the last year.
  • Experience in an outpatient setting.
  • Chemotherapy certification (CHEMO).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Knowledge and competency in NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Facility & Work Environment

  • Outpatient Treatment Center specializing in oncology infusion.
  • Part of a Level I Trauma Center.
  • Charting system: Epic.
  • Scrub color: Royal blue.
  • Free parking available.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Must provide photo ID matching legal name on first day.
  • 7-year criminal background check required within 12 months prior to start; must include SSN trace, counties lived/worked, statewide and national checks, sex offender registry, and federal checks.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
  • Foreign equivalency education evaluation required for internationally educated candidates.
  • Education verification of highest level completed.
  • Employment application with 7-year work history and no gaps over 90 days.
  • Work history verification for last 7 years (attestations not accepted).
  • Attestation of prior radiation exposure required for oncology-related roles.
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start.
  • Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months, updated annually; must be clean-shaven for fit testing.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation required.
  • Annual TB questionnaire.
  • Immunization or immunity documentation required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 MMR vaccines).
    • Varicella (positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician-documented history).
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer, vaccine series, or declination within 1 year).
    • Tdap vaccination highly preferred for pediatric specialties, labor/delivery, postpartum (declination accepted).
  • 10-panel drug screen within 12 months.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (September 1 – March 31); declinations not allowed.
  • COVID vaccination series preferred but not required.

Competency Requirements

  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required within 12 months prior to start; minimum passing score 85%.
  • Color blind testing required for all candidates starting on or after 8/2/2024; minimum passing score 80%.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam not required for ambulatory units.
  • Other competency exams as applicable per unit.

  • Language Services Training.
  • CAUTI Education Training (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health).
  • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training.
  • Stroke Education (except pediatric specialties and NICU).
  • CLABSI Prevention for Adult and Pediatric Training.
  • Preventing Pressure Injury Training.
  • Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education.
  • Pyxis ES MedStation Modules.
  • Baxter Pump Interoperability Training.
  • Patient Bedside Rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED).
  • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness (except certain hospitals).
  • AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health).
  • New Employee Orientation Module.
  • 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RNs except Home Health).
  • Chaperone Policy Training.
  • Fire Safety Module (effective 5/4/2026).
  • eCart Training Module (not required for pediatric, periop/OR, outpatient, case managers, home health).
  • ED Handbook (not applicable for this outpatient role).

Shift Details

  • Day shift, four 9-hour shifts per week (36 hours total).
