Job Opportunity: CVOR Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (CVOR - Cardiovascular Operating Room)
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:30 AM - 7:00 PM), Monday-Friday (36 hours/week)
  • On-call: Yes, 5-8 calls per month including weekends
  • Holiday call may be required
  • Facility Type: Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Facility, Magnet Hospital
  • Charting System: EPIC

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in specialty (CVOR)
  • Must be able to scrub and circulate complex vascular cases
  • First-time travelers are not preferred
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required

Licensure & Certifications

  • Must have South Carolina RN license or multi-state compact RN license in hand at start of contract
  • Required Certifications:
    • BLS (AHA only)
    • ACLS (AHA only)
  • Radiation badge required (provided by agency)
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, TNCC, NIH Stroke Certification) but not specified for this role

Clinical Skills & Procedures

  • Common vascular procedures include:
    • Endovascular, TEVAR, FEVAR, AAA, EVAR
    • Cold leg, Thrombectomy, Amputation
    • Carotid, AV Fistula, etc.

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Facility may call off traveler for 1 shift per 2 weeks (pay period)
  • Local radius rule: 60 miles
  • Locals may be accepted on a case-by-case basis
  • Hurricane season (June-November) may require assignment to emergency response teams

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Proof of work eligibility (I-9 attestation and documentation)
  • Copy of Driver’s License/State ID
  • Social Security Card or SSN verification
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year history, SSN trace, state and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education verification (diploma/transcripts preferred as placeholder if needed)
  • Employment history verification for last 3 clinical employers
  • Skills checklist updated annually
  • Radiation badge process must be completed before starting floor work
  • Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as applicable
  • Color blindness testing required prior to start
  • Facility-specific orientation modules and first day instructions must be completed before orientation
  • Clear, passport-style photo required for badge

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Initial physical exam and annual updates attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
  • Immunizations and titers required or proof of immunity for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccines)
    • Varicella (chickenpox)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
  • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days of start or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • COVID-19 vaccines are highly preferred but not required; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
  • Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30), with medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations

Additional Notes

  • Sterile Processing Techs have additional lab and physical assessment requirements (not applicable to RN role)
  • Facility parking permit available with a $20 registration fee for garage use
  • Travelers must comply with all facility-specific policies and complete required documentation timely to avoid delays or removal from assignment

This position is ideal for experienced CVOR RNs with vascular surgery skills who are comfortable with on-call responsibilities and working in a high-acuity Level I trauma center environment.
