Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS Float Pool RN)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Hours: 36 hours/week
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
- Holiday Rotation: Required
- On Call: Not required
- Float Assignment: Med Surg floors at Main hospital and Ashley River tower
- Patient Ratios: May vary depending on unit assigned
Experience & Licensure Requirements
- Years of Experience Required: 2 years
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
- License: South Carolina RN License or Multi-State/Compact State RN License
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) as applicable per unit
- First-time Travelers: Accepted

Mandatory Compliance & Documentation
- Background Checks:
- Annual background check covering last 7 years of residence/employment
- Includes SSN trace, statewide, national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education Verification: Required (diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder)
- Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; SC RN license must be active and unencumbered
- NURSYS Verification: Required for all RNs
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers required
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS: Required for all clinical staff (AHA or ARC accepted)
- ACLS: Required for adult critical care units, labor & delivery, cath lab, ER, ICU, interventional radiology, PACU, PCU, pre-op, observation units (not required for pediatric units)
- PALS: Required for pediatric units except Pediatric OR; preferred for Pediatric OR
- TNCC: Required as applicable; not required for ER RNs
- Other Certifications:
- CHEMO (only for specific oncology unit)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for ER)
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) as applicable
- Competency Exams: Required as applicable, including medication/pharmacology and OR competency exams
- Color Blind Testing: Required prior to start
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical Exam: Initial and updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Fit Mask Test: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Immunizations & Titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series with boosters as needed
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30), medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
- COVID-19 Vaccination: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
- Drug Screening: 10-panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start
Facility Specific Requirements
- Orientation: Completion of First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay modules prior to start; failure to complete results in being sent home
- Photo for Badge: Clear, passport-style photo with solid light background, frontal view, business casual attire, no hats or sunglasses
- Radiation Badge: Required only for specific units (not applicable for this RN float pool role)

Additional Notes
- Hurricane season (June - November) may require assignment to emergency response teams; peak months are August and September
- Facility allows some flexibility with block scheduling but requires manager approval
- Facility may call off shifts occasionally (1 shift per 2 weeks)
This position is ideal for Registered Nurses with at least 2 years of experience who are comfortable working night shifts and floating between medical-surgical units in a Level I Trauma Center teaching hospital environment. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
