Job Summary
- Responsible for prescribing and coordinating nursing care in accordance with the New York State Nursing Practice Act.
- Collaborates with healthcare team members to address patient and family needs.
- Provides nursing care to patients ranging from newborn to adult.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments including physical, social, behavioral, and mental status through observation, interviews, and medical record review.
- Document nursing assessments covering psychosocial, environmental, and educational factors.
- Review and integrate data from other healthcare providers and medical records.
- Identify medical problems related to psychological/mental illness and medication use.
- Communicate findings with social workers, case managers, therapists, and physicians.
- Develop and adjust patient care plans based on acute medical/surgical diagnoses and symptoms.
- Address patient education and learning needs; make referrals to other disciplines as appropriate.
- Perform nursing interventions including symptom identification, disease management, treatment modalities, and medication administration.
- Respond appropriately to medical, surgical, and critical emergencies using crisis intervention.
- Apply infection control procedures and protocols.
- Provide psychosocial support and health teaching to critically ill patients and their families.
- Ensure all procedures comply with established standards of care.
- Act as a patient advocate and report unusual occurrences or patient care incidents.
- Revise care plans based on evaluation of interventions and outcomes in collaboration with the healthcare team.
Physical Demands
- Involves standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, bending, and some repetitive motions.
Shift Details
- 2 days needed, 3 shifts of 12 hours each, with possible weekends.
- Role involves working with ICU patients in the Emergency Department.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of emergency nursing experience.
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for New York State.
- Strong critical thinking skills for patient assessment and intervention.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
