Registered Nurse - Oncology

Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week


Job Summary

Provide professional nursing care to a designated group of patients using the nursing process, current nursing trends, technology, and resources. Responsibilities include patient assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care, with a focus on oncology patients.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform all unit-specific nursing duties within scope of practice.
  • Complete initial patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care.
  • Implement and modify nursing interventions based on ongoing patient evaluation.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care.
  • Perform patient care tasks such as head-to-toe assessments, IV starts, NG tube insertions, dressing changes, medication administration, and Foley catheter insertions.
  • Access and maintain Mediports throughout shifts.
  • Assist with bedside bone marrow aspirations.
  • Administer chemotherapy and biotherapy treatments, including outpatient oncology treatments when the outpatient center is closed.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and families.
  • Promote patient and employee safety by identifying and addressing hazards.
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare team members and provide constructive feedback to peers.
  • Maintain documentation standards as verified by quarterly chart audits.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
  • Minimum of 1 year of oncology nursing experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Experience assisting with bone marrow aspirations.
