Registered Nurse (PCU) - Night Shift

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 13 weeks)
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week

Unit & Patient Population

• Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with 35 beds
• Patient types: Adults and geriatrics with cardiac, nephrology, stroke, diabetes, and continuous EEG monitoring needs
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4-5
• Nurse aide/patient care tech ratio: approximately 1:10 or 2:20
• Charge nurse present on each shift (charge nurse takes assignment)
• Fast-paced environment requiring critical thinking, problem solving, good communication, positive attitude, and teamwork

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years as a Registered Nurse
• At least 1 year of experience on a PCU or similar unit
• Current BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications
• Valid driver’s license required at submission (used to verify candidate is within 50-mile radius)
• Must pass a 90% score on a pass/fail open book skills exam during orientation (resources provided)
• Ability to titrate drips including Cardizem, beta blockers, and seizure medications

Orientation & Training

• First week: onboarding
• 1-2 days of unit-specific orientation on the floor

Scheduling & Requirements

• Shifts: 0630-1900 and 1830-0700 (nights assigned)
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: every third holiday
• No call or standby requirement
• Floating required to medical floors, ICU, or rehab units

Policies & Additional Notes

• Radius rule: candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with a specific large healthcare system
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove will result in contract termination
• Return to office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO extensions allowed
