Alternate Birthing RN

Overview

• Role: Alternate Birthing RN
• Location: Danville, Illinois
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights
• Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• Fetal monitoring competency every 2 years
• 2 years of labor & delivery experience
• Must be able to manage labor patients
• Previous travel experience
• Negative drug screen for all panels

Unit Details

• Alternate Birthing department
• 5 L&D beds
• 2 OR suites for C-sections
• 1 L&D triage bed
• 3 single postpartum rooms and 4 double postpartum rooms used as single patient rooms with support person stays in the extra bed
• Common diagnoses include labor, antepartum, postpartum, GYN surgical, and neonates

Scheduling and Work Expectations

• Typically one shift, not rotating
• Block scheduling accommodated
• Every other weekend required
• Every other holiday required
• No call or standby typically
• Floating requirements: none

Additional Notes

• Charge nurse is present 24/7 and takes a patient assignment when necessary
• 1 surgical tech every shift, with occasional PCT depending on census/acuity
• No tele
• RT support is not for adults; CPAP and HFNC are used in the nursery, with occasional vents while awaiting transport
• EFM system: Obix
• Department-specific orientation: 2 shifts
• Hospital-provided scrubs
• Local rate applies to clinicians with permanent addresses within 50 miles
• Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours, and guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation
