Unit Name: MedSurg Float
Number of Beds: 61 combined
Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Days: 1:5
- Nights: 1:6
Nurse Aide Ratio: 1:15
Respiratory Therapy Equipment: CPAP, BiPAP, High-flow oxygen
Telemetry: Yes
- Monitor Tech reads strips, RN confirms

Patient Population

Surgical patients including:
- Total joints
- Fractures
- Bariatric
- Urology
- General surgery
Medical patients including:
- Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
- Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA)
- Shortness of Breath (SOB)
- Diabetic issues

Certifications & Skills Required

BLS certification required
Experience matching current Med/Surg float nurses preferred
RNs are not required to titrate drips
No charge nurse or house supervisor responsibilities

Scheduling & Work Requirements

Shift Length: 12-hour shifts
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
Call or Standby Requirement: Yes, with LCD (Last Call Duty)
Floating: Required
Dress Code: Any scrub color

Orientation includes End of Week (EOW), Days, and first to float training
