Job Details
- Unit: 4E PCU/MedSurg (Progressive Care Unit / Medical-Surgical)
- Shift Options:
- 3x12 hour shifts (36 hours/week)
- 4x12 hour shifts (48 hours/week)
- 8 and 10 hour shifts (40 hours/week)
- Patient Ratios: 1:5
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: No
- Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs
- Block Schedule: To be discussed
- Locals Accepted: No
- Pending License Accepted: Yes, must obtain Indiana, compact, and/or temporary license prior to start
- Holiday Requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
Experience & Certifications
- Required Specialty Experience: Minimum 18 months

- Required Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Preferred Certifications: NIH Stroke Certification
- Preferred Experience: Previous charge nurse experience
Clinical Skills & Special Requirements
- Comfortable with PCU and MedSurg acuity levels
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Post cardiac surgery care (directly or indirectly from OR)
- Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation/replacement (TAVI/TAVR)
- Arterial line management
- Blood product administration
- Central line and PICC line care/management
- Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Preferred skills:
- Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)
- Pre/Post Cardiac Cath/intervention care
- Sheath removal
- Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD/RVAD/Impella)
- Care and management of ventilated patients
Unit & Patient Population
- Patient Diagnoses: Cardiovascular Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Cardiology, Endocrine, Oncology
- Unit Details: CVICU with largest population being CV and Thoracic surgery patients (CABG, TAVR, SAVR, MVR, VATS)
- Additional patient populations include flex acuity MedSurg, Progressive Care, and ICU cardiovascular and oncology patients
- All private rooms with overhead lifts and telemetry monitoring

Licensing & Compliance
- Must obtain Indiana RN license (IN, compact, or temporary) prior to start
- Effective 11/30/24, Indiana RNs are generally not allowed to work at this facility except for Perioperative/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS)
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Background checks including:
- 7-year work/lived history verification
- SSN Trace, County Criminal, Statewide, National Sex Offender, FACIS Level III
- Education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Certifications verification (ACLS, BLS, others as applicable)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam
- Unit competency exam
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months (specific respirators required)
- Immunizations and titers:
- TB test within 1 year
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations)
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations)
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Flu vaccination/documentation required for flu season (declinations not accepted)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
- References: Minimum 2 from recent employment with supervisory titles
- Employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps
- Skills checklist within 12 months and annually
- Facility-specific compliance and orientation documents required prior to start
Additional Notes
- Must be comfortable working in a mixed acuity environment and able to float within scope
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred but not required
- Must be willing to work required holidays and every other weekend
- Locals are not accepted for this travel contract position
