Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Oncology) - Charleston, South Carolina

Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) - Hollings Cancer Clinic (Oncology)
  • Location: Charleston, South Carolina
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday
  • Weekend Requirement: No weekends
  • On-call Requirement: No on-call
  • Patient Load: 12-25 patients per day
  • Floating: No floating; work limited to oncology clinics only

Contract Length

  • Duration: 13 weeks

Experience Requirements

  • Years of Oncology Experience Required: 2 years
  • Ambulatory experience: Preferred but not required
  • First-time travelers: Accepted

Licensure & Certifications

  • License: South Carolina RN license or Multi-state Compact License required by start of contract
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only (required for adult critical care units and oncology)
    • CHEMO (Chemotherapy certification) - Required for Oncology Hospital Unit (Hollings Clinics)
  • Additional Certifications (as applicable):
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Required for pediatric units (not required here)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Not required for ER RNs; check unit specifics
    • Other certifications as per unit requirements

Prior Travel Experience

  • Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required

Patient Care & Work Environment

  • Supports attending and/or mid-level providers during patient clinic appointments
  • No floating between units or sister facilities
  • No weekend or on-call shifts

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
    • Includes SSN trace, statewide, national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education Verification:
    • Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if verification pending
  • Licensure Verification:
    • Primary source verification required; must be active and unencumbered
    • NURSYS verification required for RNs
  • Drug Testing:
    • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; no instant tests accepted
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet job demands
    • Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
    • Immunizations and titers required or proof of vaccination/declination for:
      • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
      • Measles (Rubeola)
      • Mumps
      • Rubella
      • Varicella
      • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days of start or proof of prior positive with follow-up chest x-ray
    • Annual TB questionnaire
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • COVID-19 Vaccination:
    • Not required but highly preferred
    • If declined, must complete MUSC Vaccination Declination form

Competency Exams

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
  • Competency exam required for applicable units

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Completion of orientation modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours)
  • Upload COVID and flu vaccination records into facility system (OurDay)
  • Clear, passport-style badge photo required before start
  • Proof of 2 clinical references required
  • Employment application/resume with all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
  • Radiation badge may be required depending on unit (not applicable here)

Additional Notes

  • Facility allows calling off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Local radius acceptance: 60 miles
  • Locals accepted on a case-by-case basis
