Job Opportunity: Geriatric Behavioral Health Registered Nurse

Location: North Providence, Rhode Island
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (Geriatric Behavioral Health)
• Shift: 3x12 hour nights (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
• Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend
• Float: Required to float to other Behavioral Health units
• Patient Age Group: Geriatrics
• Unit Type: Locked Unit

Experience Requirements

• Years of Experience: Minimum 3 years in specialty
• Prior Travel Experience: Not accepted for first-time travelers (prior travel experience required)

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – required for ER, RRT, and MS/Tele units (may be applicable)

Required Skills and Competencies

• Experience with geriatric patients and inpatient behavioral health
• Knowledge of degenerative disorders (Alzheimer’s, ALS, Parkinson’s)
• Medication administration (PO, rectal, IM, IV, SC, etc.)
• Experience with antianxiety, antidepressant, antipsychotic, mood stabilizer, sedatives/analgesics
• Starting and maintaining IVs
• Blood glucose monitoring
• Crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques
• Managing assaultive behavior
• Familiarity with Omnicell medication system, Meditech documentation system, and SBAR communication

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
• Emergency Contact Form
• Background Check (including SSN trace, county searches, sex offender check) within 1 year
• EPLS/GSA/SAM check within 30 days of start, annually required
• HHS/OIG check within 30 days of start, annually required
• Fingerprinting required for Rhode Island RN licensure (new prints required for each assignment)
• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Immunizations and health screenings including:

  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B titer, declination, or vaccine series
  • Varicella vaccination, positive titer, or provider documentation
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
• Drug screening (9 panel) after position acceptance
• Respiratory safety clearance annually required
• Professional references: 2 for travel/allied/per diem acute care roles (within 3 years)
• Annual skills checklist and medication/pharmacology competency exams as applicable

• No previous permanent or staff experience accepted for this role
• Candidate must complete facility-specific onboarding documents and confidentiality agreements prior to start
• COVID-19 religious or medical exemption requests can be submitted for booster requirements (subject to approval)

This position is ideal for experienced geriatric behavioral health nurses with prior travel contract experience seeking a night shift travel assignment in a locked behavioral health unit.
