Job Description & Requirements

  • Must have close to 2 years of experience in Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics (preferably).
  • Floating to other units is required for most positions.
  • Must provide 2 supervisory references (charge nurses count as only 1 reference). Peer references are not accepted.
  • Current Ohio state license required for Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRT).
  • Must have a valid government-issued photo ID matching the legal name on license and certifications. Temporary IDs or paper licenses are generally not accepted.
  • Legal name on all documents must match across all systems and records. Proof of name change required if applicable.
  • Ohio driver's license address must not be within 60 miles of the facility to avoid being considered local.

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Ohio State Respiratory Therapist (RRT) license (verification required within 30 days of start).
  • National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) certification required for RRTs.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – AHA Instructor, Provider, or RQI accepted.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA Instructor, Provider, or RQI accepted.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – AHA Instructor, Provider, or RQI accepted.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required for NICU RNs (if applicable).
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) and Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) certifications as applicable.
  • N95 Fit Testing required within 1 year of start and updated annually. Acceptable masks include 3M 1860/1860S, Moldex 1513/1511, and Halyard N95 models. Candidates unable to complete prior to start may test onsite with proof of appointment.

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including a 7-year county search and education verification through National Student Clearinghouse.
  • International background check if candidate has lived or worked internationally in the past 7 years.
  • Fingerprinting (OH BCI/FBI) required within 60 days of start and updated for each new contract. Must be completed within 24-48 hours of signing contract.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
  • Sex offender search required within 30 days of start.
  • State-specific searches including Ohio Nurse Aide Registry, Ohio Inmate Registry, Ohio Medicaid Exemption, and Ohio State Abuse Registry required within 30 days of start.
  • Education verification required, including highest degree verification through National Student Clearinghouse or in-house verification if school is unverifiable.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 60 days prior to start, including amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, marijuana, methadone, phencyclidine, fentanyl.
  • TB testing options: Two PPDs (first within 12 months, second within 90 days) or QGOLD/TSPOT within 12 months. For positive results, additional chest x-ray and treatment documentation required. TB testing not required annually unless there is a break in assignments or specialty/unit change.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine required within 10 years of start (must be completed after age 11). Tdap titer not accepted in place of vaccine record.
  • Flu vaccine required between October 31 and May 31. Medical or religious exemptions accepted with facility approval and completion of exemption policy document. Declinations not accepted.
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity required via positive titer or two vaccines. Religious exemptions not accepted. If titers are negative or equivocal, two boosters required at least 28 days apart.
  • Hepatitis B: Declination, completed 3-vaccine series, or positive titer required.
  • Varicella: Positive titer or two vaccines required. Negative or equivocal titers require two boosters at least 28 days apart.
  • Physical exam required within 1 year of start (agency standard), but facility accepts signed Infection Control Policy in lieu of physical exam copy.
  • Candidates with approved flu vaccine exemption must wear a mask during flu season.

Additional Requirements

  • Unit-specific skills checklist required and must be updated annually.
  • Resume or employment application copy required.
  • Candidates must review and sign Infection Control Policy prior to start.
  • Fingerprint screening questions must be completed prior to start.
  • Candidates must comply with facility-specific documents including Code of Conduct and Confidentiality and IT Use Agreement.
  • Candidates with positive TB results must complete a TB questionnaire.
  • Fit testing documentation must be maintained annually regardless of facial hair; options available for candidates with beards.
