Registered Nurse – Long-Term Care (Travel/Contract)
Location: Vestal, New York
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Evening, 8-hour shifts (14:45 – 23:15), 5 days per week, 40 hours total
- Shift Change: Shift cannot be changed once offered
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required upon center request
- Patient Population: Alzheimer's & Dementia patients
- Facility Size: 300 beds
- Staffing Ratios: Approximately 1 nurse to 18-20 residents
- First-Time Travelers: Accepted
- Locals Accepted: Yes
Required Qualifications
- Active New York State RN license (hard copy required at submission; no license hits allowed)
- Minimum 1 year of Long-Term Care (LTC) experience required; recent experience in rehab, med-surg, or hospital settings also accepted
- BLS certification (accepted from any recognized entity, including online courses)
- Ability to pass medication administration test and clinical observation
- Strong attendance, punctuality, and dependability
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and be flexible with scheduling
- Must provide government-issued photo ID (front copy only)
Responsibilities
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed
- Perform medication passes accurately and safely
- Monitor and report changes in resident condition
- Complete timely and accurate documentation
- Provide nursing care according to facility policies
- Supervise CNAs on assigned units
Additional Requirements & Information
- Orientation: Start dates every 2 weeks due to orientation schedule
- RTO (Request Time Off): Only approved at time of submission; no changes allowed after offer
- Call-Outs: Must be given with more than 24 hours’ notice
- Compliance Processing: Takes 1.5 to 2 weeks
- Attire: Any solid color scrubs and closed-toe shoes
- Charting System: PCC (Point Click Care) – no submission required
- Parking: Free
- Mileage Reimbursement: None
Certifications & Training
- BLS required
- ACLS and PALS as applicable
- Harassment Prevention Training certificate required
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam with minimum passing score of 80% (nurses require 90% on medication administration exam)
- Facility-specific Relias modules must be started promptly after offer acceptance and completed no later than 3 days before assignment start date; additional modules may be assigned during the contract
- Fingerprinting required for CNAs (not applicable for RN role)
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (or as applicable based on history)
- Annual TB Questionnaire required in lieu of annual TB test
- Required vaccinations or proof of immunity: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Pneumonia
- Flu vaccine or declination required annually; mask required if declined during flu season
- COVID-19 vaccination or declination required
- Drug screening required for direct hires (9-panel, negative within 1 year)
References & Documentation
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred) within 2 years of start date
- Resume/application required
- New York State Immunization Information System (NYSIIS) consent form required
