Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Bristol, Tennessee
Specialty: Registered Nurse
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:30–7:00)
Schedule: 36/36 (36 hours on, 36 hours off), every other weekend, no call
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Floating to other units as needed
- Participate in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care
- General orientation begins on Sundays (online compliance-based learning) with 16 hours of nonbillable orientation
- Hospital may cancel or call off one shift biweekly without penalty due to census changes
- Additional shifts beyond the commitment are overtime and may be flexed based on census/resource needs
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license in Tennessee
- Minimum 2 years of Telemetry nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Licensure
- Valid Registered Nurse license for Tennessee with primary source verification
- NURSYS verification required
Orientation & Compliance Requirements
- Background check within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Education verification required
- Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry check required for those licensed or working in Tennessee
- Photo for badge must meet specific standards and be submitted within 48 hours of contract signing
- Completion of facility-specific forms including dress code, smoking/tobacco use policy, contaminated sharps/body fluid exposure statement, influenza policy, and respirator medical evaluation questionnaire (time sensitive)
- Respiratory fit testing completed onsite; previous fit tests from non-facility sources not accepted
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (not required annually)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility guidelines
- Immunizations or titers required for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (series, titer, or declination)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (vaccine or declination)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 29 – Mar 31) with facility-specific exemption forms
- Standard 9-panel drug screen within 14 days of start (instant test acceptable as placeholder)
Competencies & Exams
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- General competency exam required
- Skills checklist required
Additional Notes
- Candidates must commit to completing all compliance and documentation deadlines prior to start
- Orientation includes online and in-person components
- Hospital supports clinical education for nursing students as part of the role
