Registered Nurse (MS/Telemetry) - Travel/Contract Opportunity in Omaha, Nebraska
Job Overview
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Location: Omaha, Nebraska
- Unit: 5 West, a 40-bed med-surg unit caring for adult patients (18+) with medical and telemetry needs
- Shift: Day shift, 4 shifts of 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM), totaling 48 hours/week
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Care Model: Team-based care delivery involving bedside RNs, LPNs, CNAs, Virtual Nurses, and other support staff
- Patient Population: Acute and chronic illnesses including sepsis, respiratory, gastrointestinal, endocrine, cardiac diseases, COVID-19, post-bariatric procedures, complex wound care, chest tubes, tracheostomies, titratable drips, high oxygen delivery systems, and end-of-life care
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Days: 1:8
- Nights: 1:9
- Floating: Frequent floating required within scope to various units including med-surg, neuro, trauma, observation, and others; may include floating to a nearby campus
- Facility: 100% nicotine-free environment
Required Qualifications
- License: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license for Nebraska (pending license accepted but must be in hand before start)
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of telemetry nursing experience in a large, urban hospital setting
- Travel Experience: Prior travel experience required; first-time travelers not accepted unless they have 2 years at a Level I Academic Medical Center
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as applicable
- Skills:
- Experience managing drips required on all floors
- EPIC electronic charting experience required
- Other: Must be able to float to meet staffing needs
Work Requirements & Conditions
- Weekend Shifts: 4 weekend shifts out of 8 possible in a 4-week period
- Days: Saturday and Sunday
- Nights: Friday night and Saturday night
- Holiday Coverage: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays during contract
- RTO (Request Time Off): Up to two weeks allowed; requests must be submitted with application and approved by manager
- Locals: Candidates must live more than 100 miles from the facility (no locals accepted)
- Dress Code: Mandatory Steele gray scrubs with facility logo (provided after confirmation)
- Parking: Parking permits available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required
- Background check within 30 days of start, including multi-county and nationwide checks
- SAM and OIG checks required within 30 days of start and monthly thereafter
- Education verification and primary source license verification required prior to start
- Annual physical exam and fit mask test (3M 1860 Small/Regular or 3M 1870+) required
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Tdap within last 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray with signed TB questionnaire if history positive
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers (measles, mumps, rubella) with boosters if needed
- Hepatitis B titer or declination
- 2 Varicella vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed
- Drug screen within 60 days of start and annually (urine panel including multiple substances)
- Flu vaccine preferred (documentation or declination required)
- COVID vaccine preferred (medical/religious exemption or declination accepted)
- Annual skills checklist required
- Two professional references from the past 2 years required
- State-specific registry checks and abuse/neglect registry searches required

- Virtual nurses handle administrative RN tasks remotely to support bedside staff
