Job Opportunity: Pediatric PACU Registered Nurse

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 17 weeks


Work Schedule

  • Shifts: Day, Evening, Night available
  • Shift length options: 8, 10, or 12 hours
  • Typical hours between 7:30 AM and 11:00 PM
  • On-call responsibility required
  • Monday through Friday only
  • Example shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:30 AM – 8:00 PM)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Wisconsin
  • Minimum 2 years of pediatric PACU (Post Anesthetic Care) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification
  • Experience working with pediatric patients
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Testing and Competency Requirements

  • Pediatric Telemetry Test (Pass/Fail) required before starting; must meet:
    • 80% overall score
    • 100% in lethal rhythms subcategory
  • Candidates allowed up to 3 attempts with remediation after 2nd failure
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as applicable
  • Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required
  • Pass/Fail testing for EKG/Medication required annually
  • State license primary source verification and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start and upon expiration

Background and Compliance Checks

  • Background check within 90 days prior to start, including SSN trace, county, nationwide, and sex offender searches
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required upon hire and monthly thereafter
  • Wisconsin Caregiver Screening required within 90 days of start
  • Education verification as applicable
  • Drug screening required for clinical candidates per standard (not required annually)

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Proof of Tdap vaccination (one dose from adulthood) required
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility guidelines
  • Annual TB questionnaire required
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 doses or positive titers required; medical or religious exemptions accepted with proper documentation
  • Varicella: 2 doses or positive titer required; medical or religious exemptions accepted
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series and positive titer or facility-specific declination form required for direct patient care roles
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually (September 22 – April 13)
  • Meningococcal vaccine or declination required for certain departments (e.g., Microbiology)

Documentation and Other Requirements

  • Photo for badge (passport-style, no selfies or headwear except religious/medical) required before start
  • Signed acknowledgment of safety manual and pass/fail testing
  • References: 2 clinical references within last 3 years (Aya standard)
  • Employment application required
  • Annual skills checklist required
  • Wisconsin BID form (state-mandated) must be completed promptly for caregiver screening

Additional Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
  • Physical exam is not required by the facility but must be collected to meet Aya standard
  • Fit mask testing completed onsite; no need to submit results
