Required Qualifications

  • Active RN license
  • 2 years of ED experience
  • ACLS
  • BLS
  • PALS
  • NIHSS
  • TNCC

Schedule

  • Every other weekend
  • Every other holiday
  • Schedules are released 4–6 weeks in advance
  • May be assigned to a single facility for the week or placed on just-in-time assignment with 1–2 hours’ notice

Floating

  • Must float within a 60-mile zone
  • No home base facility
  • Travelers are responsible for housing that makes floating within the full zone feasible

Unit Details

  • ER/ED float role
  • Patient ratio: 1:4–5 based on acuity
  • Charge nurse takes an assignment
  • No separate psych/seclusion rooms
  • No monitor techs; nurse must read and interpret telemetry strips
  • RT is available 24/7
  • Techs assist with unit secretary work, nursing support, and triage
  • Point-of-care lab testing is performed after training

Additional Notes

  • Navy blue scrubs
  • Unit orientation is 2–3 days
  • Must be in state for the week of orientation
