Job Opportunity: OR Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Bismarck, North Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Specialty Options

1. OR - General/Robotics

  • Required Experience: Minimum 3 years OR RN experience
  • Proficiency: Must be proficient in either Ortho/Neuro OR General/Robotics
  • Common Cases:
    • Pediatrics to Geriatrics
    • Cysto
    • DaVinci XI for General/GYN/Urology
    • ION robotic cases
    • Open bellies
    • Endoscopy/GI scope experience (refresher acceptable)
  • Skills Required: Experience with open bellies, GYN, DaVinci XI for general, and endoscopy
  • Scrubbing: Not required for RNs

2. OR - Ortho/Neuro

  • Required Experience: Minimum 3 years Ortho/Neuro OR experience
  • Common Cases:
    • Total joints (hips, knees, shoulders)
    • Sports medicine
    • Arthroscopies
    • Neuro-spinal fusions (cervical and lumbar)
    • Microdiscectomies
    • Craniotomies (no awake large neuro cases)
  • Scrubbing: Not required for RNs

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Number of Suites: 12 ORs, 1 Endo Suite, 1 Cysto Suite
  • Cases Per Day: 25-30 on average
  • EMR System: EPIC
  • Shifts: 8-hour shifts
    • 06:45 AM - 3:15 PM
    • 09:00 AM - 5:30 PM
  • Scheduling: Managed by clinical supervisor
  • Call Requirements:
    • Weeknight call 1-2 times per week (3:15 PM - 6:45 AM)
    • Weekend call approximately every 3-4 weekends (Friday 3:15 PM - Monday 6:45 AM)
    • Holiday call rotation with permanent staff
  • Call Response Time: 15 minutes
  • Post-call: 8-hour reprieve shifts, sleep room available, housing nearby

Additional Requirements & Notes

  • Certifications: BLS required
  • Floating:
    • Must be willing to float to other specialty cases for cross-training
    • Must be willing to float to the floor as a 1:1 sitter or helping hands (training provided)
    • Refusal to float results in unpaid supplemental time off (RDO day)
    • Opportunity to pick up extra shifts for 1:1 sitting to supplement hours
  • Orientation:
    • General/Robotics: 3-4 days hospital orientation + 4-5 days unit orientation + 2 buddy call shifts
    • Ortho/Neuro: 4-5 days unit orientation + 2 buddy call shifts
  • Dress Code: Scrub color provided
  • Work Culture: Family atmosphere
  • Manager/Charge Nurse: Charge nurse on all shifts (7 AM - 11 PM weekdays, 7 AM - 7 PM weekends), manager available until 4 PM weekdays
  • OR Techs: Present on all shifts

Important Notes

  • Candidates must not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity.
  • Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start.
  • Contract is 13 weeks in length.
