Job Description

Seeking a Travel Nurse for an inpatient Med Surg assignment in a calm, relaxed hospital environment that emphasizes a culture of excellence.

Unit Details

• Unit Type: Medical Surgical
• Number of Beds: 18
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: Typically 1:4, sometimes 1:5, rarely 1:6
• Common Diagnoses: Pneumonia, CHF, COPD, swing bed patients, weakness, cellulitis, COVID-19, general surgical cases (e.g., appendectomies overnight)
• Drip Titration: Occasionally required (Heparin, Cardizem; initiate Levophed or Dopamine on deteriorating patients before transfer)
• Tele/Monitor Techs: Not specified; RN responsible for reading monitors
• Nurse Aids: Present during most shifts (7am-11:30pm and 1am-11pm) assisting with ADLs, blood sugars, vital signs, EKGs
• Respiratory Therapy Equipment: CPAP, BiPAP, high flow oxygen, self-rescue devices

Scheduling & Work Requirements

• No self-scheduling; block schedules preferred but may change due to FMLA, staff shortages, vacations
• Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd weekend, occasionally every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Every 3rd holiday
• Call/Standby: No call or standby requirement for travelers
• Floating: May float to Emergency Department occasionally to assist as a second RN (not expected to take a full assignment)
• Scrub Color: Any professional color

Orientation & Training

• Department-specific orientation: 12 hours total (4 hours on the floor, 8 hours with education RN)
• Buddy system: Assigned first day off

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
