Registered Nurse – Stepdown Unit (Travel/Contract)
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Assignment on a Stepdown unit with potential to float to similar patient care units including Emergency Department.
- Rotating shifts with 12-hour shifts (3 shifts per week):
- Day shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- Shift rotation may be adjusted based on hospital operational needs.
- Must work at least every other holiday.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Minimum 1.5 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with experience within the last year
- Current certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
Certifications & Testing
- Baseline competency exams (medication administration and ECG interpretation) required at orientation with remediation and retake opportunities if needed.
- Certifications must be current and renewed if expiring within 30 days of assignment start.
- Additional preferred but not required: PCU/Progressive Care experience.
Licensure & Background Checks
- Background check required prior to assignment start and must be updated annually or after breaks in service of 2+ months.
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start and updated annually. Facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
- Primary source verification of RN license within 30 days of start.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming ability to safely perform job functions.
- Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months and updated annually.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required with no declinations accepted unless approved medical/religious exemptions submitted and approved:
- Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria) every 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster if needed
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster if needed
- Hepatitis B titer, series, or declination with approved exemption
- Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (no declinations accepted)
- Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
- Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start.
Documentation & Onboarding
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
- Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome).
- Photo for badge may be required depending on role.
- Resume/CV with 3 years prior work history including at least 2 years clinical acute care experience in a similar area.
- Two professional references from within the last year required (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be prepared to complete all onboarding and competency requirements prior to start date.
- Modules and training are high priority and must be completed timely to avoid delays.
- Facility uses a specific system for submitting hours worked.
This position is ideal for experienced Stepdown RNs with solid acute care backgrounds and current Ohio licensure, seeking a travel contract with rotating 12-hour shifts in a high-acuity hospital setting.
