Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVICU (Travel/Contract)

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Shift: Night, 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), every other weekend, some holidays, no call
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care in a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) setting.
  • Must have experience with NextStage Continuous Venovenous Hemofiltration (CVVH) machine.
  • Experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery and/or Acuity Adaptable areas is preferred.
  • Basic Arrhythmia experience required; must pass a Telemetry test prior to start.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin.
  • Minimum of 1 year of CVICU experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Basic Arrhythmia experience.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days prior to start, including all locations lived/worked/schooled in the past 7 years.
  • Wisconsin BID Form and Caregiver Screening required prior to start.
  • Education verification as applicable.
  • Drug screening per standard clinical requirements.
  • Physical exam (to meet agency standard, not facility required).
  • Immunizations and health documents:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray with TB questionnaire.
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers; medical or religious exemptions allowed with proper documentation.
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer; medical or religious exemptions allowed.
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series or declination form if declining.
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required annually during flu season).
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination proof as applicable.
    • Meningococcal vaccine or declination if working in specific departments.

Testing & Competency Exams

  • Telemetry test (Adult or Pediatric as applicable) must be completed and passed prior to start and updated annually.
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as applicable.
  • Pass/Fail testing for EKG and medication knowledge required with remediation process for failures.
  • Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required.

Additional Notes

  • Night shift with 48 hours per week (4 shifts of 12 hours).
  • Every other weekend and some holiday shifts required; no on-call duties.
  • Photo for badge must meet specific guidelines (passport-style, no selfies, solid background).
  • References: Two clinical references within the last 3 years required per agency standard.
  • Employment application and annual skills checklist required.

This position is ideal for experienced CVICU RNs with strong telemetry and critical care skills, comfortable working night shifts in a high-acuity environment.
