Registered Nurse – Med Surg/Telemetry (Travel/Contract)

Location: Germantown, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

Work in Med Surg, overflow unit, post-surgical, and observation areas
Patient ratio approximately 1:6 or 1:7
Transitioning to team nursing model; LPNs are being hired to assist with this transition
On-call and weekend shifts required as needed
Weekend block scheduling generally not accommodated, but weekend blocks may be considered
Local candidates within 100-mile radius are not accepted
Start date: ASAP

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
Minimum 2 years of recent Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, including experience within the last year
At least 1 year of total travel nursing experience
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Required Certifications & Competencies

Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA or ARC only
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – AHA or ARC only
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) – Required for all RNs (annual renewal)
Competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency must be current within 1 year and updated annually
Other certifications (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM) are not required for this Med Surg/Telemetry role

Background and Screening Requirements

Background check within 60 days of start including statewide, county, federal, and education verification
Sex offender search and Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry search (TN only) required
EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated annually
Two recent professional references required
Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (no pending or instant tests accepted)

Health and Immunization Requirements

Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet job demands
Fit test for 3M N-95 masks (models 1860 and 1870+) within 1 year, must pass without limitations
Negative TB test (2-step PPD, Q-Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year; if positive, clear chest x-ray within 2 years plus annual TB questionnaire
Immunizations required with proof of vaccination or positive antibody titers for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
Hepatitis B vaccination series or positive titer or signed declination
Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30); exemptions require mask-wearing in patient areas and may delay start date

Facility-Specific Requirements

Photo for badge must meet strict guidelines (passport-style, no hats, no glasses glare, recent within 6 months)
Dress code: Navy blue scrubs for RNs; no prints or embroidered scrubs allowed
Confidentiality acknowledgment must be signed prior to start
Submission packet includes application, references, skills checklist, state license verification, and certification information
Onsite fit test and EPIC questionnaire must be completed as required

Additional Notes

Candidates must submit Return to Office (RTO) restrictions at time of application; late submissions will not be accepted
Candidates can only be submitted to one job ID at a time per facility policy
No local candidates accepted; must be willing to travel
This position is not open to first-time travel nurses
