Registered Nurse – MS/Telemetry

Location: Tucson, Arizona
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele)
  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 5-6 patients
  • Minimum 4 weekend shifts per month required
  • Must float within scope of practice, including to a sister facility approximately 25 minutes away (lower acuity)
  • No local candidates accepted
  • EPIC electronic health record system experience required

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Arizona
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) or Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement

Orientation & Training

  • Orientation held twice monthly
  • Orientation includes safety manual acknowledgement and facility-specific job description review
  • Pass/Fail testing on EKG and medication during orientation for MS/Tele units
  • Must acknowledge pass/fail testing requirements for assigned units

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by physician, NP, or PA
  • Fit testing for N95 mask within 1 year of start (PAPR allowed onsite)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (full vaccine within 10 years; declinations allowed except for pediatric and labor/delivery units)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: proof of 2 vaccines or positive IgG titer; no declinations allowed
    • Varicella: proof of 2 vaccines or positive IgG titer; no declinations allowed
    • Hepatitis B: proof of 3 vaccines or positive titer; declinations allowed with signed form
  • Negative TB test (QuantiFERON Gold, Tspot, or PPD) within 3 months of start, renewed annually; if positive, chest x-ray within 1 year showing no active TB
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30) or approved medical/religious exemption with facility-specific form
  • Drug testing: 12-panel urine drug screen within 30 days of start, must be started within 72 hours of booking

Background & Documentation

  • Background check must be completed within 30 days of assignment start, including:
    • 7-year history including Pima County, AZ
    • OFAC, National Sex Offender Search, all counties and states lived/worked
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start
  • Employment application with last 7 years of work history, explaining gaps of 30+ days
  • Two professional references from employment within last 3 years, including one supervisory reference
  • Skills checklist updated annually
  • Various facility-specific documents including orientation sign-offs and traveler welcome letter required

Additional Notes

  • Full contract length commitment required
  • Auto offer with zero return to origin (RTO)
  • Do not submit to multiple positions simultaneously

This position is ideal for experienced Medical-Surgical/Telemetry RNs comfortable with floating and working in a fast-paced environment requiring strong clinical skills and certifications.
