Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele)

Location: Tucson, Arizona
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in a Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele) unit.
  • Must float within scope of practice, including occasional floating to a sister facility about 25 minutes away.
  • Team nursing model with LPN + RN ratio of 8:1; candidates must confirm understanding of this model at time of offer.
  • 4 weekend shifts required during the contract.
  • Full contract length commitment required.
  • No local candidates or first-time travelers accepted.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Arizona Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in Medical-Surgical/Telemetry nursing.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required; must be current and not expire within 30 days of start.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required; must be current and not expire within 30 days of start.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification preferred.
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health record system required.

Certifications & Competencies

  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) required for MS/Tele unit; passing score 80% or higher.
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required; passing score 80% or higher.
  • HIPAA Competency required; must be updated annually with passing score of 80% or above.
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) or Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required.
  • NIH Stroke Certification required.
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required.
  • Other certifications such as PALS, NRP, EFM, ENPC may be relevant but not explicitly required for this role.

Health & Background Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by physician, NP, or PA.
  • Fit testing for N95 mask within 1 year of start.
  • Full TDAP vaccine within past 10 years (declinations allowed except for certain pediatric and maternity units).
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 3 months of start; must be renewed annually.
  • Proof of immunity or vaccination for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Hepatitis B. Declinations allowed for Hepatitis B only.
  • Drug testing (12 panel) within 30 days of start.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30) or approved medical/religious exemption with facility-specific form.
  • Background checks including 7-year history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG must be completed within 30 days of start.

Experience & References

  • Minimum 2 years of MS/Tele nursing experience required.
  • Prior travel experience is required; no first-time travelers accepted.
  • Two professional references from employment within the last 3 years required; one must be from a supervisory role.
  • Employment application with detailed work history for the last 7 years required; gaps of 30 days or more must be explained.
  • Skills checklist must be updated annually.

Additional Notes

  • Orientation is held twice a month.
  • Candidates must be agreeable to floating to a sister facility occasionally.
  • No submissions for multiple positions allowed.
  • Local candidates are not considered for this role.

This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs with MS/Telemetry background who are comfortable with team nursing and floating within a hospital system.
