Registered Nurse (ER - Adult)
Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift & Scheduling Details
- Shift Hours: 7 PM - 7 AM
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Must be available to work every other holiday, if needed
- Call-off Policy: Up to three shifts may be canceled by the client during the 13-week contract without charge
- Locals Accepted: No RNs within 75 miles accepted (locals accepted for LPNs)
- Accepts First-Time Travelers: Yes
Licenses & Certifications Required
- Active New York Single State RN license (NY is not Compact)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI accepted
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI accepted
- NIH Stroke Certification (to be updated annually)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) as required by unit
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) as required by unit
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) as required by unit
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) as required by unit
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
- State License Primary Source Verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS Verification within 30 days of start
- Other competencies and certifications as required by profession/unit
Required Clinical Skills
- IV therapy including blood product administration, central line care, phlebotomy, starting/maintaining IVs, IV vasopressors
- CPAP/BiPAP and ventilator management
- Care for CVA (stroke), neuro-trauma, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury (TBI)
- Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia management
- Emergency care including adult/pediatric ED, gunshot wounds, orthopedic trauma
- Isolation precautions, triage, pediatric spinal cord injury care
Unit Details
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5
- Patient population: Adults and geriatrics with all emergency diagnoses
- Special equipment: Bair hugger, rapid infuser, safe patient handling equipment
- Floating: Required within skillset
- Scrub color: Navy blue and white combinations
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (ER)
- Required Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum 1 year typical for ER travel RN roles
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required (accepts first-time travelers)
Health & Compliance Requirements
Candidates must complete health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing the contract, including but not limited to:
- Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
- Fit mask test (annual)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
- Immunizations or titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Drug screening (within 30 days of start)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (during flu season)
- Eye exam (Snellen, within 1 year)
- COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
Background & Verification
- 7-year criminal background check (including felony checks) within 3 months of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start, run monthly
- Education verification from primary source required
- Foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
- Employment verification of at least 2 past employments
- References required for Aya candidates only (2 references within 3 years)

- Government-issued photo ID required
- Candidates must submit scheduling requests upon application
- Floating within skillset expected
- Facility is a Magnet-recognized, Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center with a state-of-the-art emergency department
This position is suitable for RNs with emergency department experience who hold an active New York RN license and meet the clinical and certification requirements. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
