Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract

Location

  • Omaha, Nebraska
  • Candidate must live more than 100 miles from the facility (no locals accepted)

Employment Type

  • Travel/Contract
  • Contract length: 13 weeks

Work Schedule

  • Day shift (4x10 hours): 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM
  • Possible night shift rotation
  • Weeknight call: 1-2 nights per week on average
  • Weekend call: approximately every 4-5 weeks (24 hours on Saturday or Sunday, 1-2 days per month)
  • Off-shifting possible 1-3 shifts per 4-week scheduling period, but often not available
  • Block schedule cannot be accommodated

Job Description

  • Must have predominantly 75% (3/4) experience in Orthopedic and/or Neurosurgery skillsets
  • Experience required with majority of these cases:
    • Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (Lap chole)
    • Laparoscopic appendectomy (Lap appy)
    • Exploratory laparotomy (Ex lap)
    • Incision and drainage (I&D)
    • Bariatric surgery
    • Colorectal surgery
    • Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) & tracheostomy (Trach)
    • DaVinci robotic surgery (highly preferred)
  • Oncology, Orthopedic, and Neurosurgery experience highly preferred

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Nebraska
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room RN experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • First-time travelers NOT accepted (prior travel experience required)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure (NRP), and other certifications as applicable per unit description
  • Primary source verification of state license and NURSYS verification required prior to start

Orientation & Training

  • Bi-weekly orientation
  • Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgement required

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required
  • Background check within 30 days of start and updated annually, including:
    • Criminal history (all counties lived/worked/attended school in past 7 years)
    • Sex offender registry
    • Federal and state exclusions lists (SAM, OIG) updated every 30 days
  • Education verification required
  • State-specific registry checks (Nebraska DHHS Adult & Child Services Registry) within 30 days of start
  • Drug screen within 60 days of start and updated annually (specific panel required)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually (3M 1860 Small/Regular or 3M 1870+)
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tdap/Tetanus vaccine within last 10 years
    • Annual PPD or equivalent TB testing, chest x-ray if history of positive PPD
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with boosters if needed
    • Hepatitis B titer or declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with boosters if needed
    • Flu vaccine preferred (documentation or declination required)
    • COVID vaccine preferred (medical/religious exemption or declination accepted)
  • Baseline eye exam (Snellen) required within 30 days of start for OR staff only
  • Annual skills checklist required
  • Two professional references from work within past 2 years (one must be most recent employer if not a current traveler)

Additional Information

  • Parking permit available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates apply
  • Call-back pay applies only if called back after leaving the facility post-shift
  • Shift extensions paid at regular or overtime rates, no clocking out/in for extended shifts
  • Travelers are paid differently than core staff; core staff incentives do not apply

This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with strong orthopedic and/or neurosurgery skills who have prior travel contract experience and meet all licensure and compliance requirements.
