Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Oncology

Location: Frederick, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Patient Population

• 12-bed unit specializing in Oncology, Thoracic, and Bariatric surgery
• Patient ratio typically 1:4, may be 1:5 depending on acuity

Schedule

• Shift: Day shift (D712)
• 3 days per week
• Rotating holidays and every other weekend
• No on-call required
• Floating as needed to med/surg/tele units

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Maryland
• Minimum 1 year of Oncology experience within the last year
• Chemotherapy certification and experience with chemotherapy administration
• ACLS certification issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
• BLS certification issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
• PALS certification
• NRP certification
• TNCC certification
• NIHSS certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Certifications

• Chemotherapy certification (required)
• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider only
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) as required
• Other certifications may be required depending on assignment (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC) but not specifically for this role

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Proof of I9 or attestation
• Government-issued photo ID (must be carried during hours of service)
• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, SS trace, sex offender registry, education verification
• Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant/rapid acceptable)
• Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands (initial and updated annually)
• Immunizations and titers:

  • Tdap (no declination allowed)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccination or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B series or positive titer (no declinations accepted)
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 30)

Competency & Testing

• Pass/fail testing including medication/pharmacology competency and dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (specific to oncology and related units)
• Orientation and net learning modules required prior to start (approx. 4-5 hours) with minimum passing scores (80%)
• Candidates allowed multiple attempts on most exams except dysrhythmia exam (2 attempts max)

References & History

• Proof of 2 clinical references within the last 12 months required
• Employment application and skills checklist must be completed and updated annually
• Performance evaluations required if previously worked with the organization

• Floating to med/surg/tele units as needed
• No prior travel experience explicitly required for this role
• Located approximately 1 hour from Baltimore and Washington DC, offering suburban lifestyle with access to city amenities and outdoor activities
