Medical Surgical Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Columbia, Missouri

Position Overview

• Work on a 42-bed medical surgical unit.
• Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM).
• Floating required.
• Must work every other weekend (EOW) and at least 50% of holidays.
• No local candidates within 50 miles accepted.
• Position requires physical activity including ambulating, reaching, and moving objects over 20 lbs.
• Exposure to patients with contagious illnesses.
• Facility operates 24/7, 365 days a year.
• Rotating shifts, holiday work, and work during inclement weather required.
• Must be able to work full contract term, assigned shifts, take call, weekends, and holidays as specified.

Contract Length

• 13 weeks.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri.
• Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience within the last year.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Certifications & Competencies

• BLS required for all RNs.
• ACLS preferred but not mandatory.
• Other certifications (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC) not required for this position unless specified by unit.
• Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as applicable.
• Core competency exams as applicable.

Background and Screening Requirements

• 7-year background check required within 60 days of start.
• Separate EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG exclusion screenings required within 60 days.
• International background check required if candidate has traveled outside the USA in the last 7 years.
• Missouri Family Care Safety Registry (FCSR) or Missouri Caregiver search must be on file within 60 days before starting (only one pending allowed).
• Photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID) required.
• Proof of employment eligibility (I-9/E-Verify) required.
• Negative 7-panel drug screen within 60 days of start.

Health and Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start.
• Fit mask test valid within 1 year (3M 1870+, 1860R, 1860S, or 9205 models).
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination within 10 years or approved exemption.
• Negative TB test (QGold, TSpot, or 2-step PPD) within 1 year, updated annually.
• If positive TB history, chest x-ray within 2 years and INH treatment proof or facility-specific INH recommendation required.
• Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 MMR vaccines required; medical exemptions require facility approval.
• Hepatitis B series or positive/reactive titer required; declinations no longer accepted for new candidates after 7/1/2023.
• Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; medical exemptions require facility approval.
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31).

Documentation and Compliance

• Resume with at least 7 years of employment history, no gaps over 30 days.
• Two professional references from the last 2 years.
• Photo for badge (new candidates only).
• Completion of facility-specific new hire packet and confidentiality agreements within 60 days.
• Completion of Missouri state-specific background checks and registrations as required.
• Orientation safety manual acknowledgment and HIPAA compliance required.

Physical and Work Environment

• Active role requiring physical stamina.
• Exposure to contagious diseases.
• Work includes ambulating, reaching, and lifting/moving objects over 20 lbs.
• Must be able to work in a 24/7 healthcare environment with rotating shifts and holiday coverage.

This position is ideal for Registered Nurses with at least 1 year of experience seeking a travel contract in a medical surgical night shift role, who are comfortable with physical demands and flexible scheduling including holidays and weekends. First-time travel nurses are welcome.
